Youth in Government

Southern District YMCA supports Youth in Government. As part of Youth in Government, local high school students travel to the statehouse in Concord, NH to participate in a mock legislative session throughout two weekends. In preparation, each school elects officials, discusses current state issues and prepares bills to present and debate.

The goal of Youth in Government is to encourage young men and women to become better citizens through knowledge and active involvement in determining the future of our democracy. Under the guidance of volunteer advisors recruited by the YMCA, students debate bills, learn the democratic process and practice parliamentary procedure, press relations and lobbying techniques.

Currently, student delegations from Exeter, Newmarket, Sanborn and Timberlane high schools participate. Contact us to start Youth in Government in your school.
