Financial Assistance

Southern District YMCA programs are open to all regardless of ability to pay. YMCA staff members work with families and individuals, as well as state agencies (when necessary), to help ensure access to YMCA School Age Child Care programs. Some options include:

Payment Plans

To find out about payment plan options, please contact our District Office Manager by using the Contact Us link on this page.

State Child Care Scholarships

Southern District YMCA is able to receive payment from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) for child care services. To determine if you are eligible for state assistance, contact one of the DHHS district offices or apply on the DHHS website.

Portsmouth District Office: 1-800-821-0326 or 603-433-8326
Salem District Office: 1-800-852-7492 or 603-893-9763

Before we can begin billing for your child, you must be linked with the Southern District YMCA. You are responsible for having your case worker set up a link in their computer system.

When we receive confirmation of your eligibility we will contact you to set up a co-pay for your tuition. The state will not cover 100% of your YMCA School Age Child Care tuition; you will be responsible for any remaining balance.

YMCA Financial Assistance

If you have applied for - and not received - employment-related child care assistance from the state,  you may be eligible for financial assistance from the YMCA. To apply, please complete the financial assistance application and submit the required documentation. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis by the Financial Assistance Committee. Applicants are notified of the award decision by mail. Financial assistance must be applied for with each new school year; it does not carry over.

Financial Assistance Application

The Y does not turn anyone away for inability to pay. The process to request financial aid is both respectful and confidential.

Southern District YMCA is a cause-driven organization that is for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
