Why We Love the Y

Feb 13, 2018

February 12, 2018 (Exeter, NH)- On Monday, February 19, 2018, from 5 AM-9:30 PM, Exeter Area YMCA celebrates “Why We Love the Y,” a FREE day for the community to enjoy! Participate in group exercise classes, enjoy open Pickleball in the morning and stick around to watch the evening Basketball League! Youth are welcome to enjoy the teen center and participate in a group exercise class.

Exeter Area YMCA is a cause-driven organization advocating for the health and well-being of local youth and their families; it’s more than just a gym. It’s a community resource, supporting members and their goals.

The Y strives to support each and every person who walks through their doors; their mission is to never allow finances to become an obstacle for access to membership or programming.

Thanks to a generous community, in 2017, Exeter Area YMCA provided $118,691 in financial assistance for youth and families to attend programs across three branches: YMCA Camp Lincoln, YMCA School Age Child Care, and Exeter Area YMCA. Community provided the opportunity for a group of foster children to reunite for a summer at YMCA Camp Lincoln. Community offered affordable before and after school care so that a local mom could focus on her chemotherapy appointments, knowing that her child was safe. Community built a safe place for teens to relax after school, receive tutoring, and participate in leadership opportunities.

This vibrant community is not composed of one volunteer, donor, or member; collectively, we all impact lives, creating these incredible stories. Exeter Area YMCA hopes to thank the community by opening their doors, because the community has opened their hearts, time and time again.

On February 19, please invite your family and friends to enjoy the Y at no cost to you. During the event, YMCA staff will be hosting a volunteer booth with available volunteer positions, the opportunity to have an open conversation with the Volunteer Coordinator, and sign-up forms.

Are you passionate about youth development? Do you have a love for nutrition? Do you have a project with which Exeter Area YMCA could help? Pickleball, which started as member idea, has turned into so much more; Maria Gallagher, loves playing each week, “it feels like a community outside of the community. I have a relationship with a lot of women in the Pickleball group; it really does feel like an extended family to me!”

“The YMCA has been extremely good about letting the members grow and manage Pickleball ourselves based on the people we know and what we know about the sport; that’s been the key to its success!” says member and Exeter resident, Mell Fuller.

The Y has plenty of opportunities and resources to help you leave your mark on the community. Stop by on February 19 and have a conversation with us; our doors are open!
