Children's Carnival: Changing Lives!

Mar 02, 2018

March 1, 2017 (Exeter, NH)—Laughter echoed from the walls of the gymnasium as dozens of flushed, frizzy-haired children ran around the Ellis School at Fremont during their Lights on Afterschool event; this same infectious energy will be felt at the Children’s Carnival on March 10 from 9AM-Noon at Exeter Area YMCA! Ticket sales benefit the Annual Scholarship Fund, providing before and after school care to families in need.

As part of the YMCA’s mission to promote healthy youth development, Southern District YMCA offers before and after school care at 15 state-licensed locations, providing quality care for children and offering peace of mind for their parents. However, the YMCA offers much more than before and after school care; the YMCA changes lives.

YMCA School Age Child Care participates in monthly community service initiatives, recently collecting 1,200 nonperishable items for End 68 Hours of Hunger; hosts a variety of fun, family-friendly events throughout the year, like the Children’s Carnival; and most importantly, provides a scholarship program to support local children and their families.

Before and after school, children have the opportunity to push aside any difficulties they might face at home. Instead, they can focus on laughter and building friendships; running around and playing games; and getting creative and dressing up in Halloween costumes! Parents gain the physical and emotional freedom to focus on their day-to-day struggles because they know their children are safe. The Annual Scholarship Fund provides this special development and peace of mind for children and their families; without it, medical bills are too overwhelming and daily schedules near impossible.

Not only does the YMCA School Age Child Care program provide security and stability, more importantly, Teddie Pike speaks to the invaluable learning that children undergo, "At the YMCA after school program, I saw such a positive behavioral change in my daughter, Nikki. She was one of the older kids and this helped her learn to take care of the younger children and become a role model! The before and after school program really encourages positive development in our children. Some kids were incredibly shy, but I noticed over a period of time those kids came out of their shell; they became bright, vibrant, smiling, and happy—that’s such a positive thing to witness!”

On March 10th, Exeter Area YMCA will be transformed into a true carnival experience! Enjoy a morning of traditional fair food, games, a magic show by Shawn Mullins Magic, and a live animal show from our friends at Friendly Pets! Little ones can play in the ball pit while adults bid on some fun raffle items and purchase goodies at our bake sale. Tickets are $3/person, not to exceed $10/family. To purchase tickets, please contact Stephanie Sturgis at or 603 319 5942. We hope you join us to witness the magic!
